Why
Certification?
CTS certification is for those in the audio visual industry who want an
industry-respected designation that shows clients and colleagues that they have mastered
the skills and knowledge that make them the tops in their field.
The ICIA offers two levels of certification general and
specialised. Upon successful completion of general testing, a professional designation of Certified
Technology Specialist (CTS) is
awarded, and may be added after the individual's name.
Specialized testing is conducted for professionals involved in audiovisual design,
installation, rental products, and sales. Those successfully completing this specialized
testing receive the appropriate designation CTS - Design (CTS-D), CTS - Installation
(CTS-I), CTS - Sales
(CTS-S), or CTS- Rental
(CTS-R) after their name.
Certification demonstrates:
- Evidence of competence, dedication, and commitment.
- Increased credibility.
- Increased client confidence.
- Evidence of technical proficiency, skill, professionalism, and integrity.
General CTS Certification
- Tests on broadly required knowledge encompassing all areas of the A/V field, but not
comprehensive in any one subject.
- An online test on audio, video, systems, and displays.
- A score of 80% or higher is required to pass.
- CTS is open to all, with a focus on technical and non-sales personnel.
Prerequisites:
- Working or preparing to work in the A/V industry.
- No prior coursework, but ICIA strongly recommends taking the "Essentials of the
A/V Industry" course.
- Agreement, in writing, to the Code of Professional Ethics.
Specialised CTS Certification
Certification is for a three year period, and individuals holding certification must
renew either by re-testing, or through teaching or attending a certain number of
hours of accredited industry workshops and seminars.
